SU meets businesses for possible licensing agreements
The Silliman University (SU) Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO), represented by Kristianna Bato, Engr. Junmar Buling and Engr. Klint Ian Austero, together with Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino, SU Vice President for Development, Enterprise, and External Affairs, met with various stores, businesses, and merchants across Dumaguete to advance SU’s intellectual property protection initiative and possible licensing agreements.
SU has met with businesses including Opsimas, Royal Stitch, iConcepts, ZipLink, Power Prints, and Lee Plaza since July 26, 2022.
The SU Seal is a Registered Trademark granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines to SU last June 18, 2021.
The Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines is defined by Republic Act No. 8293, also known as “An Act Prescribing the Intellectual Property Code and Establishing the Intellectual Property Office, Providing for Its Powers and Functions, and for Other Purposes,” provides SU power and authority to protect the SU Seal.
Anyone who wishes to use the seal for business purposes must enter into the licensing agreement with the university; otherwise, they will be subjected to a violation of RA 8293.
To protect the SU Seal, the University is tapping enterprises to enter into a licensing agreement. By entering into a licensing agreement with SU, merchants will be authorized to sell products with the Silliman marks.
All businesses who wish to enter into a licensing agreement with the university may contact the SU KTTO at [email protected] or call 035 422 6002 local 419.
