SU offers free online training on digital tools
Anyone in the world with an internet connection can register for Silliman University’s free webinars on the use of various digital tools to help teachers, students, professionals, and senior citizens improve their internet skills.
The Free Computer Education Program of Silliman University (SU) and Dr. Mariano Lao conducts the webinars, open to non-Sillimanians, every Saturday from February until May 21, 2022.
Topics include computer troubleshooting, dealing with computer viruses, blogging, online job hunting, creating animated videos and logos, remote work management, and other techniques for internet users of all ages.
Certificates are given after each webinar, which will be conducted via Zoom.
“This semester, the theme of our training is all about improving internet skills to make us safe to make us secure and how to make sure that our computers are working properly as the intended purpose of it,” said Dr. Dave E. Marcial, director of the Office of Silliman Online University Learning (SOUL), during the program’s virtual launch last February 7, 2022.
The first webinar, titled “Search Better: Learn about the many hidden features of Google Search,” was conducted by Jan Cynth Palama, SOUL faculty member, last February 12.
The program, now in its fourth year, is led by the Dr. Mariano Lao Innovation, Creation, and Invention (ICI) Laboratory of SU and is conducted with a different set of topics every semester. The program was launched in 2019 through the support of Dr. Mariano Lao, a 2018 Outstanding Sillimanian awardee.
