SU Signs MoA with New York-based Engineering Firm
Silliman University and Howard I. Shapiro & Associates, Consulting Engineers, P.C. entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) after incoming 5th year mechanical engineering student Lawrence Joseph Mariño got accepted as the latter’s student-intern.
The New York-based engineering and consulting firm was represented by Jay P. Shapiro, P.E.
The Agreement is for the purpose of setting out the rights and responsibilities of the both parties in relation to the engagement of the student-intern with the firm in the context of an internship program. This includes the prohibition of creating or implying an employer-employee relationship between Shapiro and Mariño, defining the responsibilities of Silliman and Shapiro in evaluating Mariño’s performance.
“So far, we are still complying the requirements under CHED Memorandum Order No. 22. S. 2013 before Mariño can start at Shapiro. We are glad that one of our students can be trained over there,” said Engr. Jesus Amiscaray, dean of the College of Engineering and Design.
“We do encourage our students to explore these opportunities. As long as we will have enough time to comply with the CHED requirements, we will support future students who will get accepted in foreign-based companies for their internship,” Amiscaray added.
