SU strengthens community partnership
Silliman University enters into a partnership with Barangay Palinpinon, Valencia, Negros Oriental, strengthening the institution’s community extension and service learning.
The ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) initiated by the Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning (OCESL) was held April 26, 2023.
The MOU covers mutual interest in undertaking projects for the benefit of the environment and the general welfare of the communities in Palinpinon and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Present during the MOU ceremonial signing were Silliman University Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Earl Jude Paul Cleope, OCESL OIC Director, Mr. Novee Maestrecampo Jr., and Barangay Palinpinon Captain, Hon. Carlos Gainsan, OCESL Social Workers, Ilene Palitoc and Dimple Montes and Barangay Palinpinon Officials.
Representing Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann, SU president, during the ceremonial signing of the MOU, Dr. Cleope said that the opportunity to partner with the locality will not only give Silliman
University the chance to share its expertise in community building but at the same time a chance for the students and the faculty to immerse in the program.
For his part, Maestrecampo said: “The partnership with Barangay Palinpinon is an important initiative of the OCESL to expand the relevance and reach of the University’s community extension, service-learning, and other engagements with our students and faculty members. We are happy and thankful to Hon. Gainsan for welcoming Silliman University to Barangay Palinpinon. We look forward to a productive partnership in the themes of health, governance, education, and livelihood.”
