SU to honor 11 Heritage Builders

Silliman University (SU) will recognize the contribution and legacy of 11 former employees as Heritage Builders in a formal ceremony at the Silliman Hall on August 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

This year’s honorees include Dallas M. and Anne B. Walters, Literature and Dramatics faculty (1923-1933); Evelyn Rose R. Aldecoa, instructor at the Speech and Theater Arts Department of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and Luce Auditorium director (1977-2009); Christopher O. Aranas, Luce Auditorium technical staff (1994-2018); Liwayway S. Arabe, dance choregrapher/director (1980-1998); Azucena E. Barrera, Chemistry professor/Luce Ushers advider (1970-2009); Ephraim N. Bejar, Speech and Theater chairperson/community theater director (1968-1988); Esther F. Camino, Elementary music teacher/choir director (1997-2020); Zacarias Laviña, Silliman orchestra director (1923-1930); Serafin B. Perez, theater director (1930-1942); and Estarlito C. Zerna, Luce Auditorium staff member (1979-2016).

Since 2007, SU has honored those who had demonstrated unwavering commitment to the University through their years of service and contributions to the growth of SU. This includes teachers, office staff, custodians, drivers, faith formation workers, and administrators who served the University for at least ten years and have since passed on.

For this year, the Heritage Builders’ Committee was guided by the theme, “Celebrating the 50th Year of Luce Auditorium, Honoring Culture and Arts Movers,” in selecting the honorees whose names will be inscribed on the Heritage Builders’ Wall, located near the SU Hall grounds.
