SU to host climate change forum of World Bank

Silliman University (SU) will host a multisectoral forum on the World Bank’s key findings and policy recommendations for the Philippines concerning climate change, climate action, and low-carbon development, February 14, 2023 at Bethel Guest House.

Dr. Stefano Pagiola, senior environmental economist of the World Bank’s Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy, and Dr. Souleymane Coulibay, lead economist and program leader of the World Bank’s Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions Practice Group, will be the key resource speakers in the forum.

SU invited the following to serve as reactors in the forum: Dr. Jorge Emmanuel, environmental scientist and adjunct professor at SU; Edward Du, Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce president; and John Christian Entrata, SU Student Government president.

The World Bank published the findings and recommendations in its 2022 Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR), which covers areas related to climate change and the environment, specifically the Philippines’ climate commitments, policies, and capacities.

The World Bank considers the CCDR a “core diagnostic tool” to guide countries on approaches to low-carbon development and impactful actions, including the costs and challenges of climate action.

SU hosts the forum as part of its commitment to lead and support environmental initiatives, climate action, and sustainability, as detailed in its Environmental Principles, Policies, Guidelines, and Best Practices adopted in 2018.

The forum will be from 12 noon until 3 p.m. at the Joshua I function room of Bethel Guest House.

The SU College of Business Administration serves as the lead unit in hosting the event, with Dr. Wilma Milo Tejero-Libarios, CBA dean, as secretariat chair.
