SU to host first-ever IP Boost Camp Visayas

Silliman University (SU) is set to host the inaugural Intellectual Property (IP) Boost Camp Visayas from August 12 to 16, 2024, at the Multipurpose Room (MPR).

Organized in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the event is spearheaded by the SU’s SINERGY Technology Business Incubation (SU-TBI) and the Knowledge Technology Transfer Office (SU-KTTO), alongside the Development and Acceleration Support for Innovation Growth (DASIG) Consortium, of which SU is a member.

This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at expanding students’ knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP) rights and management.

The IP Boost Camp will gather students from various Dumaguete universities for a week-long program focused on critical IP topics. Sessions will cover IP Fundamentals, Copyrights and Related Rights, Trademarks, Patents, Utility Models, Industrial Designs, and Commercialization. The camp is designed to help students enhance their projects and research, making them more commercially viable and impactful.

According to the organizers, this is the first event of its kind in the Visayas region.

“By the end of the program, we hope that students will be able to apply the knowledge they gain to their projects, products, and research, leading to new opportunities in their business ventures, and their fields of study,” said Engr. Klint Ian V. Austero, SU-KTTO manager, Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) specialist of SU TBI, and College of Engineering and Design (CED) faculty member.

“Ultimately, the event can aspire to inspire students to pursue careers in IP-related fields,” he added.

The event will feature hands-on workshops and sessions led by experts in the field, aiming to equip students with practical skills to apply to their work. Participants are expected to leave with a deeper understanding of how to translate their innovations into public and commercial success.
