SUCN students bag two awards in int’l confab

Student-researchers from the Silliman University College of Nursing won best paper award and first place in the podium presentation (Student Category) at the 12th International Conference of Nurses (ICONS), held at the Golden Peak Hotel, Cebu on November 24-25, 2023.
The research team, composed of Level IV students, includes Francess Jade B. Añosa, Claire S. Balbuena, Ma. Jirija Eunice P. Bartolay, Leo Lorenz H. Cruz, Mia Belle A. Damayo, Clester S. Enildas, Sophia Kae C. Gurdiel, Soleil Mari V. Maghuyop, Shaira Shannine V. Miramon, Anne Nicolette S. Ortega, Claire J. Tenaja, and Ma. Kiedis B. Trasmonte. Their research adviser is Dr. Freslyn Lim-Saco.
Titled, “Experiences of Burnout among Student Nurses in Dumaguete City during Covid-19,” their winning paper sought to interpret and understand the experience of burnout among student nurses in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines using Gadamer’s Hermeneutic Phenomenology.
Results of their study revealed student-nurses’ experiences, which involve exhaustion, psychosocial connectedness, and employing varied coping mechanisms. The researchers said that gaining insight into student-nurses’ burnout enables the development of enhanced support networks, which are critical to improving healthcare for patients of all ages.
The paper was presented by Tenaja.
The ICONS is an annual gathering of regional, national, and international nurses to exchange knowledge and best practices in nursing research, with the goal of advancing evidence-based, high quality nursing education and nursing practice.
ICONS 12 was hosted by the Cebu Normal University College of Nursing in collaboration with the Research Institute for Ageing and Health and Nightingale Student Council.
