SUMS Student Assoc. Named One of Country’s Ten Outstanding Medical Student Orgs.
The Silliman University Medical Students Association (SUMSA), the official student council of the Silliman University Medical School, was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Medical Student Organizations (TOMSO) of the Philippines by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges-Student Network (APMC-SN).
They received the award during the APMC-SN National Convention hosted February 7 by the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
SUMSA was chosen for their pro-active and socially relevant cause that promotes collective action towards community development and nation-building. One of the advocacies that paved the way to the award was their #GO4ther4Health Campaign, inspired by the Department of Health’s GO4Health Campaign (Go Sigla, Go Slow Sa Tagay, Go Smoke-Free, Go Sustansya).
This is the first year that the APMC-SN, the largest national organization of medical students in the Philippines, established the Dr. Fernando S. Sanchez Jr. Ten Outstanding Medical Student Organizations (TOMSO) of the Philippines Awards. The award aims to encourage medical student-led socio-civic efforts and actively carry out advocacies in the community in the field of medicine and medical education.
