Works by Fine Arts Majors on Exhibit at Ariniego Art Gallery

The Department of Fine Arts of the College of Visual and Performing Arts launched on February 4 the 9th Horace B. Silliman Art Exhibit at the new Dr. Romeo P. Ariniego Art Gallery.

Open to the public, the exhibit features installation artworks, paintings and drawings by Fine Arts majors in the first up to fourth year levels. It also provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to patrons of the arts and make available their works for sale.

In another section of the Gallery are paintings that form part of the personal collection of Dr. Ariniego, a renowned cardiologist and an Outstanding Sillimanian who provided the funds to establish the gallery and after whom the same was named. Among the paintings on display are those by celebrated Filipino artists H.R. Ocampo, Solomon Saprid, Jose T. Joya, Ernie Verroya and Emmanuel Garibay. The same paintings have been entrusted by Dr. Ariniego to Silliman.

The launching of the exhibit, which runs until February 9, marks the soft opening of the Art Gallery, which was inaugurated in August last year during the Founders Day celebration of Silliman University. The exhibit also honors Dr. Horace Brinsmade Silliman, a philanthropist of Cohoes, New York, who donated the initial sum of $10,000 to establish what was then Silliman Institute on August 28, 1901.
