Best Practices on Local Knowledge Shared in Indonesia
A faculty of the College of Computer Studies was among 16 school representatives invited to Indonesia to share best practices on integration of local knowledge in classroom instruction, service-learning and research.
Dr. Dave E. Marcial represented Silliman in the Philippine-Indonesian Local Knowledge Exchange program spearheaded by the Asian University Digital Resource Network (AUDRN) from April 21 to May 3. He visited a total of nine member universities of the University Network for Digital Knowledge (UNDK) located in different provinces in Indonesia.
He discussed “Local Knowledge Computing: The Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Collection, Preservation and Dissemination of Local Knowledge” at the Universitas Katolik Widya Karya in Malang, Indonesia. He also participated in roundtable discussions in the other universities that they visited: Universitas Katolik Widya Mandira, Kupang; Universitas Kristen Artha Wacana, Kupang; Universitas Kristen Petra, Surabaya; Universitas Katolik Soegijapranata, Semarang; Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, Salatiga; Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, Yogyakarta; Universitas Sanata Dharma, Yogyakarta; and Universitas Kristen Indonesia Paulus, Makassar.
AUDRN is an initiative of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia convened and coordinated by Miriam College. One of its objectives is to promote local knowledge through digital tools, resource sharing and networking. Silliman is one of its founding members.
The establishment of UNDK in Indonesia was inspired by the collaboration model of the AUDRN.
