2 SU alumni named 2023 Outstanding Social Worker of the Philippines

Silliman University (SU) alumni Atty. Mary Inglay Capuyan-Fokno and Hon. Joan Mita B. Atega-Monding were among the recipients of the 2023 Outstanding Social Worker of the Philippines award from the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) last September 22, 2023.

Capuyan-Fokno and Atega-Monding received the awards during PASWI’s 75th Platinum Jubilee Awards & Recognition ceremony at the Manila Hotel.

Capuyan-Fokno and Atega-Monding completed their Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) degree from SU in 1976 and 1974, respectively.

SU alumna Prof. Emervencia L. Ligutom and Portia Sylvia D. Awayan were also recognized during the event as recipients of the Outstanding Social Worker of the Philippines award in 2022 and 2021, respectively.

Both Ligutom and Awayan completed their BSSW degree in 1976.

Ligutom was also the former director of the SU Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning.
