This summer marks the beginning of the “second fifty” of the Writers Workshop as it moves onward from its golden anniversary last year. Dumaguete-based writers Bobby Villasis and Cesar Ruiz Aquino, as well as guest panelists Susan Lara, DM Reyes, Gemino Abad, and Alfred Yuson will be this years’ panel of critics. Joining the panel on the second week from May 7-11 is David McKirdy, a Hong Kong-based poet whose book of poems Accidental Occidental was published in 2005. He is the third writer to be invited from outside the country. Aside from the 11 students given fellowships, one student from Singapore, Ming Kun, will also be joining the Workshop as guest fellow.
SUNWW is the oldest creative writing program in Asia. It was founded by the late National Artist for Literature Dr. Edith L. Tiempo, along with her husband, the late Dr. Edilberto K. Tiempo.
