Former BOT Chair Receives Prestigious Bayi Citation Award
Former Board of Trustees Chairperson Prof. Leonor M. Briones is one of ten recipients of this year’s distinguished Bayi Citation Award.
Professor Briones, who once served the country as National Treasurer and is presently lead convener of Social Watch Philippines, a group that seeks to eradicate poverty and corruption, is cited in the field of Government Service.
The Bayi Citation Award is given biennially to women leaders from different fields of expertise who consistently and selflessly work to empower and inspire women to take on leadership roles. It is given by the Institute of Politics and Governance and the Barangay Bayan Governance Consortium. This year, it is done in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung-Philippines and One World Action, a United Kingdom-based non-government organization.
An Outstanding Sillimanian in the field of Fiscal and Public Administration, Professor Briones is regarded for her expertise and experience in public finance. She continues to be active in civil society, campaigning for increased government allocations for programs on the Millennium Development Goals. She also teaches at the National College of Public Administration of the University of the Philippines.
The other recipients this year are: CheChe Lazaro (Media), Julie Lluch (Arts and Culture), Edith Magos-Regalado (Women and Public Health), Rep. Maria Isabelle Climaco (Legislative Advocacy), Heidi Mendoza (Anti-Corruption/Good Governance), Mayor Maria Cecilia Claire Reyes (Good Local Governance), Bae Era Espina (indigenous Peoples Governance), Tessie Fernandez (Community Leadership), and Maria Ruiz Bunghug (Barangay Governance).
