Agriculture faculty member bags scholarship for postgraduate study
Asst. Prof. Arsenio Bulfa Jr., a faculty member of the Silliman University College of Agriculture, received a scholarship to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
Bulfa will pursue a Ph.D. in Agronomy at the University of the Philippines for the Academic Year 2023-2024.
The DAAD-SEARCA In-Country Scholarship provides Bulfa initial one-year funding for tuition, living allowance, insurance, and others, which is renewable for four more semesters after submission of proof of satisfactory academic performance.
Bulfa’s research proposal that clinched the scholarship aims to produce biochar nanoparticles from agrowaste biochars; characterize agrowaste biochar nanoparticles (ABN) using chemical and instrumentation methods; assess the effects of ABN on soil physico-chemical properties; and assess the physio-morphological responses of corn to ABN applications under different environmental stresses.
DAAD is a joint organization of universities and other higher education institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany.
SEARCA, a non-profit organization established by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, provides grants for development-related graduate and post-graduate studies to individuals from Southeast Asia who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in their home country.
