SU Alumni Chapter of San Diego and Metro Manila Donate PPE’s for Frontliners

In response to the campaign to support and protect Silliman University Medical Center frontliners against Covid 19, the Silliman University Alumni and Friends at San Diego (SUA&F@San Diego) recently donated 1,000 US Dollars’ worth of PPE’s (Personal Protection Equipment) in a simple Turnover Ceremony held last July 16, 2020 at the historic Silliman Hall. Mr. Jerrold Pabillan of the Silliman University Medical Center Foundation Inc. (SUMCFI) Heart Institute represented SUA&F@San Diego during the turnover. The donation comprised of 55 coveralls, 68 isolation gowns and 100 N95 masks, was formally received by Silliman University President Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann and SUMCFI President Mr. Roberto D. Montebon. In receiving the donation, Dr. McCann pointed out that this donation is a manifestation of the three fold Ministry of Silliman University, which is teaching, preaching and healing. She also thanked SUA&F@San Diego Chapter Officers and Board of Directors for facilitating the donation. In the same way, Mr. Roberto D. Montebon thanked Silliman University for helping in the campaign to gather more PPE’s to protect our SUMC frontliners against Covid 19 and to the San Diego alumni chapter for responding to the need. Also present during the donation turnover were: SUMCFI Nursing and Patient Services Vice President Fredita Tan, SUMCFI Purchasing Department Head Rewa Caber, and Silliman University Alumni and External Affairs Director, Mr. Ruben N. In the midst of this Covid 19 hysteria, members of the San Diego alumni chapter also decided to honor and protect their most vulnerable septuagenarian members last April 4, 2020. A care package, which included face masks, hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial wipes, was assembled and delivered. The preparation process was slow as market supplies were low. But the “Care Package” project came through, as Louella Dolar-Perrin provided the materials and personally sewed the fabric face masks, while Laarni Catague Gularek purchased the rest of the items that went into the package. Other members that helped in the packaging and distribution were, Louella Dolar-Perrin, Fely Narvaez, Efren Madrid, Laarni Catague Gularek and Priscilla Gallardo Madrid. The care packages were warmly received by the recipients.
