SANE’s 1st scholar graduates
As part of the Silliman Association of New England (SANE) Scholarship mission to inspire alumni and friends in investing lasting and life-changing contributions to Silliman, it officially announced the graduation of its first scholar, L J Christwill Divine Juarez. SANE’s Accountancy Scholarship is in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Frederico I. Agnir, a 2005 Outstanding Silliman Awardee in the field of Pastoral Ministry.
Juarez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, cum laude, laast March 23, 2019 during Silliman’s 106th Commencement Exercises. She is also the recipient of this year’s KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. Excellence Award, the Punongbayan & Araullo CPAs Excellence Award, and the Isla Lipana & Co. Academic Excellence Award. She has been a SANE scholar since 2016 when she began her sophomore accountancy degree.
Juarez credits much of her success to the scholarship. “At first, I thought it was impossible for me to enroll here (Silliman University) during my first year but only prayer was my only weapon. I was even tested when some of my friends went home after the first semester and transferred to another college in Kabankalan. My mother asked me if I would do the same but I responded, enrolling here has been an answer to my prayer and this is my prayer. This is what I prayed for and I believe I could finish my dreams.”
The SANE Accountancy Scholarship aims to ensure that the University’s tradition of excellence will continue to be available to students, whatever their financial circumstances; and inspire others to invest in planting the transformative seeds of education. The scholarship is open to any eligible financially challenged accountancy student with full tuition and miscellaneous fees, board and lodging, and educational field trips and book expenses waivers.
