Divinity School to hold symposium on ecumenism
As a prelude to the 2021 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Silliman University (SU) Divinity School will hold a symposium on ecumenism and the local initiatives in our immediate community on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the evening via ZOOM and Facebook live.
The symposium, titled “Oikoumene Dumaguete: The Narrative,” will feature the beginnings and the present state of ecumenism in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental.
The pool of speakers includes United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) Bishop Emeritus and Divinity School former dean, Bishop Erme Camba, and Fr. Eric Lozada from the Roman Catholic (RC) Diocese of Dumaguete. It can be recalled that both personalities were instrumental in the local ecumenical movement’s beginnings along with the retired Bishop David Ga of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI).
DM Lorena C. Narciso, a youth leader of the IFI-Diocese of Negros Oriental will serve as the reactor and will also share about the present efforts of ecumenism among young people in the three various churches: UCCP, IFI, and RC. Serving as the moderator is Jose Arvin “Joop” Miranda from the Focolare Movement Dumaguete.
This symposium serves as an introductory activity for the Virtual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, running from January 18 to 24, to be participated by the Dumaguete ecumenical community.
