This digital newsletter is a digest of calls for participation, research collaborations, fellowships, scholarships, events and other opportunities for the Silliman community.  It is curated by the Office of Strategic Partnerships. The Office also acts as the Secretariat of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia and as the Liaison to the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia.


ASEAN Youth Eco-champions Award

The ASEAN Youth Eco-champions Award (AYECA) recognizes young citizens, aged 18-35 years old, from ASEAN Member States (AMS) who have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment. The award is presented to two Youth Eco-champions per AMS.
There are two categories based on age:
Junior Category (Aged 18-25)
Senior Category (Aged 26-35)
A nominator should ensure that the nominee:
  • A citizen of the nominating AMS;
  • Between 18 to 35 years old on the closing date of nominations;
  • Has contributed significantly to environment outreach, in ASEAN, in areas such as waste management and reduction, climate change and energy efficiency, public cleanliness, water conservation and biodiversity conservation;
  • Has been active for at least a duration of two years recently (within the past five years);
  • Should not have been awarded other ASEAN youth environmental awards, e.g. the ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes Award.
  • The deadline for submission of nominations is on July 15, 2019.

7TH ASEF PUBLIC DIPLOMACY TRAINING 2019 IN SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA (FULLY FUNDED)]

Apply now to attend the 7th ASEF Public Diplomacy Training in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The ASEF Public Diplomacy Training provides diplomats, government officials and civil society representatives a unique opportunity to build or further enhance their public diplomacy skills and exchange best practices.
As a contribution to public diplomacy efforts of the 53 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Partners, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) established the ASEF Public Diplomacy Training in 2013, in partnership with the DiploFoundation (Diplo) of Switzerland. Since then, 6 tutored online courses and 6 face-to-face workshops have been conducted and more than 220 participants have benefited from the training.
Through the Face-to-face Training and the Online Course, participantswill gain insights into the current perceptions of diplomacy efforts in Asia and Europe and how to incorporate public diplomacy skills into their daily work. The specific objectives are to:
  1. Enable participants to deepen their knowledge of public perceptions of Asia and Europe, bi-regional dynamics, and how these impact the intent and design of their mission
  2. Provide practical skills to formulate, develop and deliver effective public diplomacy campaigns and programs to promote the ASEM Process through real-life examples and case studies
  3. Increase networking opportunities for ASEM diplomats, government officials and civil society actors to exchange best practices and promote deeper understanding of Asia-Europe relations.
Activities:
  1. 7th Online Course 29 July – 20 September 2019
  2. 7th Face-to-face Training, Siem Reap, Cambodia 21-25 October 2019
Benefits:
  1. Successful applicants will have the privilege to take part in both the Online Training and the Face-to-face Training.
  2. Only participants that have successfully completed the Online Training will be eligible to take part in the Face-to-face Training on 21-25 October 2019 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
  3. The organisers will cover:
  4. Airfare on point-to-point economy class and/or train ticket to travel to/from Siem Reap, Cambodia, through reimbursement
  • 5 nights of accommodation in the training venue with check-in (details to follow)
  • Meals and refreshments during the training programme
Eligibility:
  1. Young diplomats in departments dealing with Asia, Europe, or ASEM in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs or equivalent of the ASEM Partners
  2. Diplomats posted by ASEM Partners to ASEM countries who are dealing with public diplomacy
  3. Representatives from government agencies (culture, tourism, trade and investment, etc.)
  4. Civil society members whose work is influencing public diplomacy
Requirements:
  1. MA degree, or equivalent, or BA degree with at least 3 years of diplomatic working experience
  2. Currently working in the Asia-Europe contextHigh proficiency in English
  3. Interest in public diplomacy, public affairs or communications

THE MODEL ASEM (ASIA-EUROPE MEETING) SPIN-OFF 2019 IN MALTA, EUROPE

The Model ASEM Spin-off Malta 2019 OpenCall for student participants is out. Model ASEM Spin-off conferences aim at capturing the enthusiasm of students to engage in political simulations at a broader level. The Model ASEM Spin-off conferences are self-organised by students and institutions who aspire to build platforms for young people to exchange perspectives on Asia-Europe collaborations, promote the ASEM Process and build long-term relations between the young people of the 2 continents.
Model ASEM is a simulation of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) when the Foreign Ministers and Representatives of the 53 ASEM Partners convene. It provides a platform for vibrant political debate and negotiation where students have the possibility to experience first-hand Asia-Europe diplomacy. Each participant will be part of an ASEM
Delegation and join role-play exercises and practical trainings to enhance her/his diplomacy, consensus-building and public-speaking skills.
Objectives:
  1. Link students with ASEM Officials on a national level
  2. Facilitate capacity-building and fine-tuning of skills in the fields of negotiation, diplomacy and consensus-building
  3. Enhance the understanding of Asia-Europe collaboration and the ASEM Process
  4. Develop a consensus-based Model ASEM Chair’s Statement
Requirement:
  1. Citizens of any of the 51 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Partner countries (Iclude Indonesia and Pakistan)
  2. University students from all levels (undergraduate, graduate and doctoral) and all disciplines, between the ages of 18-30, with a sincere interest in international relations
  3. The conference will be conducted in English only, and therefore requires strong verbal and written command of English by all participants
