International journalist, online news editor to be Balik-Talent speakers at CMC
An Al Jazeera correspondent for Asia and the online news editor of The Freeman of Cebu City will speak at the Balik-Talent 2020 of the College of Mass Communication (CMC).
Balik-Talent is a Founders Day event where the college invites notable alumni to share meaningful experience-based knowledge and observations, from which the Mass Com students and faculty can glean insight and inspiration. CMC Balik-Talent presentations aim to broaden students’ information and understanding about new communication and media trends, which will be part of their future as communication professionals.
Ted Regencia, a Bachelor of Mass Communication cum laude graduate Batch 1999, will speak on the topic “Journalism Without Borders in the 21st Century.” He will describe the concept of reporting across and beyond geographic and national borders and share his experiences as an international correspondent for the international news outfit Al Jazeera. Regencia welcomes the opportunity to tell Mass Com students and other viewers his experiences as an international journalist. “It is an honor,” he said in accepting the invitation.
Joeberth Ocao, a Bachelor of Mass Communication graduate Batch 2001, and now Online News Editor of the Cebu-based daily, will talk about “Online Journalism at The Freeman.” He reportedly pioneered in digital news-gathering as a faculty member of the CMC before he joined The Freeman. Ocao said he will be pleased to show the students how online news is processed at his newspaper and to answer their questions. He will hold a Zoom webinar with a brief live open forum with the students afterwards.
CMC invites its alumni all over the world to view this year’s virtual CMC Balik-Talent events on SU’s official Facebook page beginning at 2 pm Friday, August 28. It also sends the hundreds of Mass Com alumni warm greetings of hope on the occasion of Silliman’s 119th Founders Day. Special greetings are due this year’s Jubilarians Brenda Kyamko, Proculo Maslog, and Emma Yap-Uymatiao, BJ Batch 1970.
