Pres. McCann attends COCOPEA strategic meeting
Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann, Silliman University president, attended the 2019 Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations of the Philippines (COCOPEA) Strategic Meeting on April 29 at the Holiday Inn and Suites, Makati.
Dr. Pio D. Baconga, COCOPEA chair and Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities (ACSCU) president, led the strategic planning workshop with Dr. Vicente K. Fabella, Jose Rizal University president and Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) Public Policy Committee chair.
Mr. Karol Mark Yee, former executive director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), facilitated the workshop attended by representatives of other educational associations such as Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, president of the Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAPSCU), and Fr. Joel E. Tabora, SJ, president of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).
The workshop focused on revisiting the vision and mission of COCOPEA to realign its goals and metrics for the next years in light of the educational reforms in the country. Dr. Baconga presented a review of the 2015 COCOPEA’s roadmap and its accomplishments in the areas of academic freedom, quality education, complementarity between public and private higher education institutions (HEIs), healthy governance, and regulation of HEIs.
COCOPEA, the unifying voice of private education in the Philippines, has more than 2,000 member institutions. It is composed of five (5) educational associations, namely, ACSCU; CEAP; PACU; PAPSCU; and Technical Vocational Schools Association.
