SU, DepEd provide milk to elementary schools in Negros Oriental
Silliman University (SU) and the Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Oriental, in cooperation with the National Dairy Authority, has started distributing milk packs to elementary schools in the province to help address malnutrition among children.
SU supplies the milk in DepEd’s Milk Feeding Program. The milk is a product from the Scheide Farm of the SU College of Agriculture.
SU is also assigned to distribute a total of 104,952 milk packs in the municipalities of Manjuyod, Bindoy, Tayasan, Jimalalud, and La Libertad. The distribution started last January 14, 2021 in Manjuyod.
Rafael B. Nepomuceno, SU Schiede Farm manager, said that all elementary schools in Negros Oriental will receive milk packs.
Nepomuceno said the program aims to provide milk to the beneficiaries that can last up to 12 days, which would mean at least 12 packs for each beneficiary.
The program will continue until May 2021.
