SU, Smart launch LED billboard
Silliman University and telecommunications company PLDT-Smart Communications, Inc. unveiled and launched on September 28 a LED billboard on Hibbard Avenue. The simple rites at the billboard site were attended by Siliman administrators, executives representing SMART Communications, Inc., and staff of both organizations involved in implementing the project.
The agreement between SU and Smart – the first of its kind entered into by the leading Telco with a university – aims to enhance Silliman’s information-sharing capacity with members of both the Silliman and Dumaguete communities.
In welcoming the guests, SU Vice President for Development Jane Annette Belarmino remarked how the ground-breaking rites were done four months ago and now the actual LED billboard is completed. She thanked Smart for choosing Silliman as its first partner in this endeavor, and urged the heads of SU’s colleges, schools, and institutes to share their knowledge and information by uploading them on the billboard.
“We would like to equip and enable our community partners like Silliman University with digital tools and services such as faster Internet speed and up-to-date products and services that would fit their digital lifestyle,” said Mr. Ediner A. Tinio, Smart Cluster Head for Regional Customer Development-Western Visayas. He said his team is delighted and excited with this partnership (with Silliman), and are looking forward to more events and collaborations in the years ahead.
SU President Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann said that the device will be useful in ensuring that the University will have a more efficient and effective way of delivering communication to both its internal and external publics.
She asked the school administrators present to make sure that in using the LED billboard, they will upload contents that are “S.M.A.R.T: Specific and Significant, Meaningful and Measurable, Agreeable to the whole Silliman community, Relevant and Responsive, and Timely.”
The LED billboard at Silliman will post official events announcements, posters, welcome banners, and congratulatory messages. Informative or promotional videos, coverage of major events, and instructional materials using text and photos may also be displayed. It also will be used to post urgent messages such as public announcements and warnings, storm signals and updates, and notices of class suspensions. Information on the billboard is accessible to pedestrians and motorists moving along Hibbard Avenue.
