SU solar panels generate 6.5M pesos in savings

Silliman University has generated about 6.5 million pesos worth of solar energy since the University switched on its solar panels in August 2016.

Engr. Edgar Ygnalaga Jr., SU Buildings and Grounds superintendent, reported March 15 that from August 2016 to January 2019, SU has saved PhP 6,534,298 in energy costs, having  sourced from its solar panels energy amounting to 656,765.38 kwh.

The solar panels located at the College of Business Administration building, SU Main Library, and the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium have a total generating capacity of 210 kw that is equivalent to the University’s base load or the minimum level of electricity demand.

The use of solar energy on campus is one of the University’s efforts to advance its environmental advocacy.
